Clave (Spanish clave- "key") is a simple Cuban folk percussion instrument of African origin. It is a pair of rounded sticks of hard wood for setting the tempo in a music band. Musician playing the clave (often singer too), holds one of the sticks in your hand so that the palm serve as a kind of resonator. The other on the first stick causes rhythmic beats producing clear sounds of high-pitched tone. Clave can be used for various rhythmic patterns; but is mainly used for of the same name clave rhythm, which is known in several variations: guaguanco clave, clave sona, clave Colombia, Brazil clave and others. Clave is widely used in Cuban music, as well as Latin music styles such as mambo, salsa and etc.
